Landa Library reopens this week

Monte Vista Landa Library opens Thursday The San Antonio Public Library’s Landa Branch will reopen Thursday after extensive upgrades were made over the summer. The branch library at 244 Bushnell Avenue, which has been closed since June 5, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. A complete restoration of the exterior of the historic building as well as interior improvements were part of the $825,000 project, including $10,000 in private donations. Preservation Fair promotes historic homes The city’s Office of Historic Preservation is sponsoring its 9th annual Historic Homeowner Fair at The Pearl Stables, 307 Pearl Parkway, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Robert Barco Maldonado was one of the many people shot by a sniper at the 1979 Battle of Flowers Parade and went on to become a high school teacher. He died Sept. 20 at 79.
